Bona Pools has been building outdoor spaces across Morris County since 1960. Patios, fire features, outdoor kitchens, walls, walkways, and plantings all come from one hardscaping crew. You get the whole yard handled, not one piece of it.
A fire pit changes how long people stay outside. We build ours from hand-picked stone, either freestanding or worked into a seat wall. Each one becomes the spot people gather around after the sun goes down.
Full outdoor fireplaces do the same job with more presence. They give a plain yard a clear focal point and a reason to use it in October and April, not just July.
Cooking outside should not mean running back and forth to the house. Our outdoor kitchens are built from natural stone with a built-in BBQ grill, granite countertops, and room to prep.
Most include a bar and seating area, so whoever is cooking stays in the conversation. We size the layout around how you actually entertain. Six people on a Friday needs a different build than twenty on a holiday.
The parts you don’t see matter too. Gas lines, drainage, and a level base keep the kitchen working season after season.
The material sets the tone for the whole patio. We don’t pick it on looks alone.
You can choose natural stone, pavers, or clean modern finishes. Each option gets weighed for how it wears, how it feels underfoot, and how it handles a Northern NJ winter. Freeze and thaw cycles are hard on a bad install.
Careful installation locks it in. Even spacing, tight lines, and smooth transitions separate a space that looks sharp on day one from one that still looks sharp ten years in.
Most yards need work before any stone goes down. We handle the excavation, grading, and drainage that make the finished space hold up.
That means moving soil, setting proper slope, and getting water away from the stone and your house. Skip it and you get settling, puddles, and cracked joints in a few seasons.
Plantings finish the job. Beds and border planting soften hard edges and tie new stonework into the rest of the property. The yard reads as one design instead of a patio dropped into a lawn.
Walls do more than hold back dirt. A retaining wall can turn a slope into usable flat space, and a seat wall adds seating without adding furniture.
Walkways move people through the yard without making them think about it. Subtle changes in elevation and well-placed steps connect the driveway, the patio, and the pool.
Property borders define the edges. Path lighting along steps and seating keeps the space easy to use after dark. Good hardscaping should make a yard easier to live in, not harder.
